Description

Not sure if this is the correct place to raise an issue. In case you suspect this might be due to the nature package is built on Ubuntu end, feel free to point me to their bugtracker.

Ubuntu 20.04 LTS based system with nginx from official repositories.

Background:

When trying to reload the nginx with following command:

nginx -s reload

Process periodically fails and the whole Nginx crashes. The only thing I've caught in the logs are these two messages:

2020/09/11 04:43:06 [notice] 1658923#1658923: signal process started
panic: memory wrap at /usr/share/perl/5.30/constant.pm line 20.
Compilation failed in require at /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/perl5/5.30/nginx.pm line 61.
BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/perl5/5.30/nginx.pm line 61.
Compilation failed in require.
BEGIN failed--compilation aborted.
2020/09/11 04:43:06 [alert] 1658915#1658915: perl_parse() failed: 255

Problem is temporarily mitigated by adding Restart=on-failure in the systemd unit.

As it only occurs periodically, the only real way to trigger it on my end was to issue the reload command multiple times in a row.

Let me know if I can provide any additional information.

This looks like a problem in Perl 5.30, see ticket #1831.
